Back to the future office
How does a corporation with over 16,000 employees effectively organise hybrid working teams? And how is personal interaction maintained? This is how Krones AG further developed its office concept with the help of desk sharing and desk.ly.

Desk Sharing & Collaboration
Since the pandemic, work life has shifted into the digital realm. Employees at Krones quickly adapted to the benefits, such as reduced commuting and more focused work from home. To enhance their satisfaction, the company increased the proportion of remote work to 50%. With only part of the workforce now present at the facility, fewer workspaces were needed there.
"By redesigning the office spaces, attractive workstations and retreats have been created to optimally combine work and communication. I appreciate the flexibility to choose my workplace according to my upcoming tasks."

Optimise the office for collaboration
Due to the increased hybrid work model, a significant amount of space has been freed up. As a result, Krones has reimagined the office as a hub for collaboration and interaction.
Fixed workstations have been replaced with shared desks, and office spaces have been redesigned to enhance communication. Areas for uninterrupted discussions are now provided by silent boxes or lounge corners, such as the business sofa with a sound-absorbing backrest. Employees store personal items and work tools in lockable trolleys.
Piloting the new office concept
Krones AG chose the Information Management department as the pilot area. Here, the concept and desk booking were initially tested with a smaller group of participants. During this pilot phase, the team collected feedback and gained valuable insights for the rollout in other areas. Desk sharing is now established in many other departments.
How to implement a pilot phase in your company and why it is so important can be found in our free Whitepaper "7 Best Practices for successful desk sharing".
Workplace Management Software
Krones AG uses desk.ly to coordinate office usage.
- Employees coordinate among themselves to plan who will be present in the office and when, facilitating their collaboration.
- They book their workspace at the facility in advance—stored features such as technical equipment make selection easier.
- Managers receive data that is crucial for the office's development.

"As an assistant, I like to sit close to my boss when I'm in the office. Therefore, I utilise the Favourite Spot feature on desk.ly to swiftly reserve my preferred workspace."

The Krones Group was established in 1951 and is headquartered in Neutraubling, Bavaria. Today, Krones AG, as a manufacturer of systems and machinery for the production, filling, and packaging of beverages and liquid foods in PET and glass bottles as well as beverage cans, covers the entire production, filling, and packaging process in the manufacturing operation with its products. Additional solutions include areas such as digitalisation, plastic recycling, and intralogistics. While new machines and systems are primarily produced at the German sites (Neutraubling, Nittenau, Flensburg, Rosenheim), the group generates nearly 90% of its revenue abroad. Over the years, Krones has experienced significant growth. The company now employs approximately 18,500 people worldwide across more than 100 locations.
